“An adult relationship does not begin the day two people meet; it starts in the childhood of each partner”    Armstrong  (2002)

Following an extensive career in theatre I trained a Guy's Hospital to be a Psychologist and Psychotherapist.

Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) is a Guy's Hospital home-grown practical therapy founded by Tony Ryle.  It contains many aspects of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) in that it addresses thoughts and behaviours, but also the learned "roles" that we acquire as we grow up.  We use these roles as part of our management strategies at work, in relationships and interpersonally. However, sometimes we find the strategies no longer work well for us and we need to examine which are redundant, which should be revised, and which should be let go.  In turn, this helps us understand core beliefs and aspects of ourselves which perhaps we have held on to for too long.

My PhD specialised in the effect of Recognition and the use of CAT - on how being loved and recognised for who we are is crucial for adaptive living and well-being.
